Leather is natural beauty at its finest. Edelman’s deep respect for the natural world is reflected in our commitment to environmentally-sound practices from start to finish.
We craft beautiful leather from hides that would otherwise be discarded as food industry by-products. In addition, our heirloom-quality leather products last, unlike disposable fashion that ends in landfills. Full grain leathers, aniline-dyed and with small amounts of pigment in the finish, outlast fabrics by four to five times.
Many Edelman leathers are prepared with European green tanning, which uses only natural tree bark extracts, such as mimosa and oak-vegetable tannage. The tanning process uses mostly water-based materials, limiting emissions of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and meeting strict Italian government-enforced emission standards.
Edelman’s finishing plant in New York uses no solvent-based materials and produces no VOCs. All finishes are water-based, as enforced by OSHA.
All Edelman leathers are GREENGUARD Certified. The GREENGUARD Certification Program offers assurance that products designed for use in indoor spaces meet strict chemical emissions limits. This contributes to improved air quality where GREENGUARD Certified products are used and helps create healthier interiors.
