General Installation and Care Hints:Before installation, the boxed tiles should be opened on site and allowed to acclimate; to “breathe”, a minimum of 48 hours. Leather floor and wall tiles should be installed on a clean, unfinished surface, preferably plywood. Of course, all open subfloor seams should be properly grouted. Never install on sheet rock or drywall. A suitable, non-flammable contact adhesive of great quality is important. In each area of the country the best tile installers are anxious to work on leather tile because they see it as something new, and potentially important to them. However, it is recommended that you choose an installer with floor tile experience…even better, an expert in the eyes of the Edelmans, who are available to give you advice about installing your leather tiles! To begin, always lay the pattern starting in the middle of the room. The tile should be laid to a line as a ceramic tile. This way the spaces between the tiles will vary just a bit. They will fit together like a puzzle. Leather tiles themselves will vary slightly due to their being a natural product. THESE ARE NOT PERFECT VINYL TILES…
Maintenance:Once the installation is complete…it is the waxing that will fill the gaps (acting as a grout), and the buffing that will really bring your floor alive. The overall look is rich and natural. It is key to wax and buff the floor at least three times before using it. This will help protect and enrich the leather. Depending on use, buffing every few weeks and waxing several times a year is all that is needed. How do I clean my leather floor? YOU DON’T. The first time something happens, don’t be nervous. If you must clean it, use only a soft and ever-so-lightly dampened cloth. Otherwise, just remember that your leather floor thrives on usage, and its natural beauty is enhanced with each scratch and mark. It will develop a rich, natural patina with time. You will love your leather floor more and more each year. |
